1st Caspian Europe Forum

On the Occasion of Germany’s Presidency of the European Council

Beginn:
Ort:
Berlin

The Caspian Sea, with an area of 380,000 km², is the world’s largest inland sea, at the interface between Europe and Asia. The region’s economic, cultural and ethnic ties extend far into Eastern Europe and Asia, making the Caspian Sea a true regional center. The five countries bordering the Caspian Sea are Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. Uzbekistan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Turkey also have important historical, geo-political and cultural links with the region, although they are not coastal states themselves.

The Caspian region with its vast oil and gas reserves is an increasingly important source of energy. The Caspian Sea, the world’s largest saltwater lake, is also the source of more than 90 percent of the world’s caviar.

The region is also an important transit hub for various goods and plays an important role in the “New Silk Road” and the “North-South corridor”, among others. Many of the sea’s port cities are fascinating and historic destinations that strengthen the region’s tourism industry.

Following the historic agreement between the five littoral states in August 2018, the five countries are also working to expand their economic cooperation.

With the European Caspian Forum, the Maleki Corporate Group is creating a platform to discuss with experts the importance of this agreement and the cooperation between the countries in the region for Europe and the opportunities for European companies in the fields of energy, logistics, infrastructure and tourism.
