China’s technological and economic transformation is reshaping industries, markets and international cooperation. For the next generation of European professionals, a differentiated understanding of these developments is becoming increasingly important.

The BWA China Classroom 2026 offers students and young professionals from Germany and other European countries the opportunity to gain first-hand insights into China’s business, academic and innovation ecosystems. Over the course of three weeks, participants will travel through Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang and engage directly with companies, universities, research institutions and public-sector representatives.

The programme builds on the BWA Global Economic Network’s long-standing relationships in China and combines institutional dialogue, academic exchange, company visits and cultural encounters. It is designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of China’s economic development while creating opportunities for lasting international cooperation and professional exchange.

The programme reflects the BWA’s conviction that sustainable international cooperation is shaped not only by institutions and companies, but also by a new generation of internationally minded professionals who are willing to engage across cultures with curiosity, respect and openness.

Programme Focus

In Shanghai, participants will explore global business, innovation and international dialogue. The programme is expected to include exchanges with leading universities as well as visits to internationally recognised technology companies and innovation-driven enterprises.

In Jiangsu, the focus will be on advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and Sino-German cooperation. Participants will gain insights into successful industrial partnerships, German hidden champions, research institutions and modern manufacturing facilities.

The third part of the programme in Zhejiang will address the digital economy, entrepreneurship, electric mobility and sustainable innovation. Company visits, university exchanges and encounters with regional innovation ecosystems will provide a broad perspective on China’s ongoing economic transformation.

Alongside the professional and academic programme, selected cultural activities will offer participants a deeper understanding of the regions visited.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

• engage with executives, entrepreneurs and institutional decision-makers;
• exchange perspectives with professors, researchers and students;
• visit companies, universities and innovation centres;
• strengthen their intercultural communication and leadership skills;
• build relationships with future business and innovation leaders from Europe and China.

The entire professional and academic programme will be conducted in English. Chinese language skills are not required.

Target Group

Applications are open to motivated Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students enrolled at German or other European universities.

The programme is particularly relevant for applicants with an interest in:

Participants are expected to take an active part in the full programme.

Participation fee: EUR 1,498 per person

The participation fee includes accommodation in shared twin rooms, domestic transportation, transfers within China, selected meals, company and institutional visits, university exchanges, lectures, workshops, cultural activities, bilingual programme coordination and a certificate of participation.

International flights, visa costs where applicable, travel and health insurance, telecommunications, personal expenses and meals during individual leisure time are not included.

A discount of ten per cent is available for each additional participant from the same family or group, up to a maximum of three participants.

The application process includes the submission of an online application, a CV and proof of university enrolment. Applications will be reviewed by the BWA. Admitted participants will receive further information on the detailed itinerary, travel preparation and participation arrangements.
